The annual scientific conference of the University of Tartu Faculty of Medicine brings together not only medical doctors but also researchers from diverse fields whose work is connected to medicine. This year, our group was proudly represented by Darja, whose oral presentation “Immuunkontrollpunkti inhibiitorid mõjutavad keemiaravimite tsütotoksilist toimet pea- ja kaelapiirkonna vähi rakuliinides” (“Immune checkpoint inhibitors affect the cytotoxic effect of chemotherapeutic drugs in head and neck cancer cell lines”) received first prize in the category of doctors, resident physicians, and scientists. Anni’s poster “Geneetiliste mutatsioonide uurimine G-valguga seotud retseptorites” (“Investigation of genetic mutations in G protein-coupled receptors”) earned an honourable mention in the same category. We’ll keep striving for the best science! This autumn, the “Talents to Tartu!” program launched once again, bringing together gifted first-year students from across Estonia. Out of 68 selected participants, 44 chose the science track, and we’re excited to welcome eight of them into our research group!
The students are now contributing to two cutting-edge projects: 1) "Testing the effects of drugs on genetic mutations of the dopamine D3 receptor." Supervised by Anni Allikalt 2) "Determination of dopamine and serotonin using a novel receptor-based biosensor system." Supervised by Santa Veikšina and Prof. Ago Rinken Through this program, we aim to nurture the academic and personal growth of these promising young researchers, offering them hands-on experience, mentorship, and a supportive scientific community. |
